Smoking ban in France

Looks like the smoking ban extension in France is going into effect on Jan 1st.

It will include bars, discotheques, restaurants, hotels, casinos and cafes on Jan. 1.

The phased smoking ban began last February in workplaces, schools, airports, hospitals and other "closed and covered" public places like train stations. And now this is the rest of it.

Just about anywhere indoors will be off-limits for smoking, except homes, hotel rooms, and sealed smoking chambers at establishments that decide to provide them.

Countries like Italy, Spain, Belgium, Britain and Ireland already have smoking bans.

Tiger mauling at San Francisco zoo

What a horrible thing to happen on Christmas.

It all went down at the San Frnacisco Zoo. Apparently there was a tiger that somehow escaped from its cage.

When it escaped it killed one person right by its cage. Then it also attacked two other people.

The two others are still alive. However they are in the hospital with some nasty wounds.

Stop those teeth pains!

I hate going to the dentist like so bad. It seems that they are always hurting me what I go there for a cleaning or whatever. Of course, my teeth where I have sensitive teeth is part of the problem. I usually only notice it real bad when I am doing something like trying to eat an ice cream sundae or trying to eat some hot soup or hot oatmeal. But when I do notice that my teeth are feeling senstive I notice it pretty big because the pain is pretty bad.

I had been thinking for some time about trying out some sensitive toothpaste for my teeth. Of course I have had a hard time in the past believing some of the claims of the pastes that they can actually stop the pain. It seems as if most of them actually just kind of hide the pain for a short period of time. Instead a good alternative is Biotene toothpaste. Biotene really works at the problem of the sensitive teeth instead of just hiding the pain.

So if you have sensitive teeth you need to check out the Biotene toothpaste for your sensitive teeth today!

baaaahhhh

Man I am so glad it is close to Xmas. The traffic on the way to work is light. And there are not a lot of people that are at my work.

Of course I am not done shopping! Usually I am done way before Xmas!

This year I am a slacker!

So now I get to go out and fight all the peeps at the mall.

That will not be fun. I hate that man.

These inmates must have watched Shawshank Redemption!!

ELIZABETH, N.J. — Two inmates escaped from a county jail, hiding the holes they made in the walls by putting up photos of bikini-clad women, officials said.

Authorities searched over the weekend for Jose Espinosa, who was awaiting sentencing for manslaughter, and Otis Blunt, who was facing robbery and other charges. They also launched a review of jail security.

The two got out of the Union County jail Saturday evening. The county prosecutor's office said the two apparently removed cement blocks from two walls, squeezed through the openings, jumped to a rooftop below and then made it over a 25-foot-high fence. The section they escaped from was supposed to be the most secure area of the facility.

"I'm extremely disturbed that a jail with the capability of security it has would foster a breach of this nature," County Prosecutor Theodore Romankow told The Star-Ledger of Newark for Monday's editions.

Espinosa, 20, an alleged gang member, was awaiting sentencing after pleading guilty to manslaughter in a 2005 drive-by shooting in Elizabeth. Blunt, 32, was awaiting trial on charges of robbery and weapons offenses.

The men helped cover up the break by placing dummies under their bed blankets, and hiding the wall holes with magazine photos of women in bikinis, authorities said.
Authorities launched a review of security measures, and barred inmates from pinning up pictures from magazines on their cell walls.

Depp At His Best

Are you a pretty big Johnny Depp fan like me? If so then I bet you are getting really excited for the December 21st, 2007 release of "Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street" starring Johnny Depp that will be in theaters. I certainly know that I am excited about it.

I have been a big Johnny Depp fan ever since I saw him on that show 21 Jump Street, Then I loved him in "What's Eating Gilbert Grape' too! Another one of my early Johnny Depp fave movies is "Benny and Joon." I also love his more recent stuff like the "Pirates of the Caribbean" movies but I do think that the first one of those was the best. I also liked that one movie "The Corpse Bride" where he did the voice of the one character. And how could I almost forget the classics "Edward Scissorhands" and "Cry-baby" ???!!!?

I would have to say though that it is a toss up as to which movie role is my fave movie role for Johnny Depp. It would have to be a contest between "Benny and Joon" and "Pirates of the Caribbean." And both are really quite different roles. Actually I think I might like his role in "Pirates of the Caribbean" more because he really seemed to go all in for it. So, that would have to be my favorite -- so far that is! I mean, he is supposed to be really good in Sweeney Todd too! I get stoked just thinking about it because I am such a Johnny Depp fan!

So, if you are a big Johnny Depp fan, what are you waiting for, go ahead and visit the official Sweeney Todd movie site or even visit Sweeney Todd on MySpace and get your self ready to see Johnny Depp as the Demon Barber of Fleet Street on December 21, 2007 only in theaters!

Hillary in Iowa

Did you see the news? Hillary got an endorsement? Looks like one of the papers in Iowa is endorsing her. I think it was the Des Moines Register or something like that.

This resulted in her getting a surge in that state. But it looks like Obama got a surge in NH. Why? Because the Boston Globe endorsed him.

interest rates down?

Looks like it is going to happen again. The Fed is set to lower the interest rate. At least that is what a lot of people are saying.

I keep checking the CNN site to see if it has happened yet. It has not happened yet. I kind of hope that it doesn't.

Everytime they lower the interest rate my savings account rate is lowered. And that is really no good for me at all.

Need a loan?

These days you have to get yourself a loan to be able to get something like a car or a house. Gone are the days when people used to save up and save up their money forever so that they could pay cash for things.

Personal Loans are just the way that it is these days. I do not know anyone that has never had a loan. Most of the people that I know have more than one loan.

Car Loans are probably the most common. And they are also probably the first loan that most people get. Usually your parents co-sign for you to help you out a little. But make no mistake it is still a loan that you have to pay back.

If you need a loan or need some info on loans you need to check out Best Leading Lenders. You will find that they have absolutely no application fees. They have nationwide services available. And best of all they have totally online instant processing. And there is loan approval for all credit situations. So check out Best Leading Lenders today if you need a loan!

Michael Vick going to jail

Did you hear the news today? I saw it on CNN on my lunch break. Michael Vick has been sentenced to federal prison. His sentencing was for 23 months.

What a load of crap.

Kobe Bryant rapes a woman and nothing happens to him.

OJ Simpson kills a woman and nothing happens to him.

Michael Vick made some dogs fight and killed some dogs. He goes to jail.

What is wrong with this picture? The US "Justice" System is sending the message that you can do whatever you want to women and face no repercussions. But you cannot do things to dogs. What a freaking country!

Jodie Foster comes out!!

Did Jodie Foster come out?

While it has always seemed to be a bit of an open secret, it may be a secret no longer. Apparently at the 16th annual Hollywood Reporter’s Women in Entertainment Power 100 breakfast Jodie Foster was not so private about her private life.

During her acceptance speech for the Sherry Lansing Leadership Award, Jodie thanked “my beautiful Cydney who sticks with me through all the rotten and the bliss.” And Cydney is of course the woman that people have been saying that she is with for years. Kudos to her for finally acknowledging Cydney.

The best credit cards

Do you know what the best credit cards are that are out there when it comes to doing balance transfers from one card to another?

You know, there really are a lot of choices out there when it comes to credit cards. So, I think that the real question is not what credit card is the best credit card that is out there. Instead the question should be what credit card that is out there is the best credit card for you? For me personally I am a big fan of the cards that reward you. Some of them give you cash back, some of them give you some money off coupons for use in their store and some give you points of some sort that you can redeem for gift cards or for airline miles or even for merchandise. Those are the only types of credit cards that I personally use.

And I do not think that it is easy to get a credit card either. So I think that you need to be a bit picky when it comes to choosing a card for you!

You know her from that CBS show "Ghost Whisperer." She was also in "Party of Five."

Anyways, there is a lot of media around her. Seems someone took a photo of her in a bikini and post it to the web.

Then people started calling her fat.

And she is a size 2!

Akon tosses fans

Have you seen the latest news on singer Akon? Apparently he is in trouble!

Akon is being charged in New York. Seems there was a concert there where he threw a fan off the stage. The fan was a 15 year old boy. Akon threw the boy into the audience and he hit a girl who suffered a concussion. That is why he is being charged. Amen to that!

Get your chef's apron on

You know what I love to do? I love to cook! But I am a bit of a klutz in the kitchen and always end up with food on my clothes. Of course, this would not happen if I would just wear one of those chef's aprons! But I suppose I will never learn :)

Did you know that you can order chef's aprons online at Cozy Homewares? They sell shower curtains there too. And did I mention the best part? They offer totally free shipping in the US.

Their chef's aprons come in a lot of different colors. They even have them for the kiddies. They also have light colored ones and white ones. Why would you want a white apron? Then everyone will see what you spill on yourself!

You know who could use one of those chef's aprons? Britney Spears. That way she would not get Cheetos stuff on her shirts.

Jennifer Love Hewiit engaged!

Have you heard the news? The Ghost Whisperer hottie is officially engaged. Yes, that is correct. I saw the news on CNN. The guy is an actor too.

She got engaged to Scottish actor Ross McCall. He has not really been in a lot of things. So you probably have not seen him in anything. Hooray for them!

What is it with these gay male celebrities? They just can't seem to stay out of trouble! Usually it is poor George Michael though. But this time it is Boy George.

Apparently he had a male escort over. He then proceed to chain the escort to a wall. And now Boy George was charged in London with false imprisonment of an escort. Oy vey. When will these people learn?

Brr cold weather

How is the weather where you are? I woke up to find it super cold in my place! And I hate the cold. Thankfully the snow has not yet started though. I am hoping to move out of the snowy area of the US before the snowing starts. But with the temp now the snow might beat me! I need to find a warm place to live! I am thinking about Cali by the beach! Oh yeah!

The Speakeasy New Years Eve in Columbus, Ohio

I saw a really cool ad for New Years Eve in Columbus. The ad was for a New Year's Eve party called The Speakeasy in Columbus, Ohio. It is a 1920's themed party. I'm talking flappers and gangsters here.

So, check out The Speakeasy New Years Eve for something cool to do this year.

Is the Bachelor gay?

I saw on Yahoo that The Bachelor Brad Womack turned down both girls. From looking at his picture it is not surprising. The boy is gay. Not Lance Bass gay, but definitely Neil Patrick Harris gay.

He supposedly declared that he he didn't really love either one of them. Wonder how much the studio paid him to do this show? And how come they didn't realize he is gay? I'm telling you - Brad Womack is totally gay. At least he looks totally gay in my opinion.

Would you have Britney Spear to your house from Thanksgiving?

I was listening to the radio on the way to work this morning. Apparently Miley Cyrus and her dad Billy Ray Cyrus have invited Britney Spears to their house for Thanksgiving. That is so odd.

What is even more odd is that she said yes! Do you think they really meant it when they asked her? And did they really think that she would say yes? Girl is crazy. I can't say that I would invite her. Wow.

check out The Garden Escape

Do you have a business or a home that has a need for garden buildings? If so, you should head on over and check out The Garden Escape. This United Kingdom based company specializes in very high quality garden buildings for uses like offices, gyms and so on.

Personally, I could totally use a garden room or a garden building. They seem so relaxing and stress free - and who in this day and age could not use something relaxing and stress free? Apparently they also lead to pretty high levels of productivity, which is not all that surprising considering the whole relaxing and stress free thing. Another one of the things that I like so much about the garden rooms and the garden buildings is the vibe that I get from them. There is this while Zen minimalist thing going on with them and I totally dig it.

You can get your Garden Escape in pretty much any size as they come in a whole host of different sizes to meet your individual needs. There are also some where you can tailor the size to specifically meet your unique needs.

You might be surprised to learn that the garden buildings are better insulated than most homes! And you can have plumbing installed in your garden building too! So, if you want to have, say a sauna in it then you can. Now that has to be super extra relaxing, eh?

If you are liking the sound of this you should check out the Garden Escape and order your garden room today.

Michael Vick going to jail

Did you see the news? I read it on the front page of Yahoo. Michael Vick has surrendered to authorities. He is doing it three weeks early though. And he is on his way to jail. Funny that Kobe Bryant raped someone and nothing happened and Michael Vick had some dog fights and is going to jail.

Do you see the plain and clear message here? Society puts more value on dogs than on women. What the hell society?

Katherine McPhee is engaged! I was hoping that Katherine McPhee is a lesbian!

Katherine McPhee is a hottie. So, I had high hopes that I would one day get to see Katherine McPhee kissing a woman or two. And I wanted to read the headlines:

"Katherine McPhee is a lesbian"
"Katherine McPhee comes out"
"Katherine McPhee caught kissing a woman"

And so on.

Sadly, that is not what happened today. Instead the headline reads that Katherine McPhee is engaged to some actor by the name of Nick Cokas. Dammit man.

Will I get to see Katherine McPhee kissing girls or what?

Katie Couric mocks Dan Rather - world sees it

What an idiot Katie Couric is. She mocks Dan Rather and it gets recorded on tape. Then guess what happens next? It ends up on the internet for the world to see. Do you think she feels stupid now? She actually said "This tart is ready to go!"

I just don't know about her. She's kinda of weird looking too.

Holy crap! Did you know that Fergie of the Black Eyed Peas fame used to be a drug addicted celebrity? That's right, this former Kids Incorporated celeb used to have a drug addiction.

What was she addicted to? Fergie was addicted to crystal meth. Apparently all of this was before joining the Black Eyed Peas.

Do you know what day it is in Britney history?

Yes, that's right. Today is a very special day in Britney Spears history. It is the day that she sent Kevin Federline the text message. The text message that said she was divorcing him. Oh, the agony.

Stephen Colbert won't be president

Isn't it sad? Stephen Colbert has dropped his bid for the presidency. It's really kind of tragic. I would loved to have seen him on one of those debates. Man, that would have been classic.

I just don't understand

the appeal of perez hilton. the website, not the gay boy. i mean, is it supposed to be entertaining? it is really kind of retarded when you get right down to it. of course, he is sitting at home raking in google cash. and here i sit with a PR0.

Woe is me.

well, his name is Dog!

"Dog the Bounty Hunter" was suspended after its star, Duane "Dog" Chapman, made racist insults. Not terribly surprising, is it? No, he looks like a big redneck. And clearly he is a big ole redneck. Geesh.

Kentucky church prays for Britney and sends her letters

Sarkozy's wife left him

Wow, busy news day! Looks like Sarkozy and his wife have split up. I still hate that he won that election. He looks kind of slimy to me.

And they were broken up in 2005. What, did he pay her to come back so that he could win the election? Is her contract up now?

Transit strike in France too!

Wow, first a train strike in Germany. Now there is a one-day transit strike in France. Mmm Paris. If I lived in Paris I would not want a car either. But you wouldn't have to take transit there. You could either bike it or walk it. Unless you lived too far from work or something. I hope I never end up on a European vacation during a transit strike. That would suck.

Train strike in Germany

I love taking public transportation in Europe. I dunno why, I just do. If I lived there I would try not to have car. Of course, that would suck right now since there is a train strike in Germany. And apparently Germany has the highest rail usage by commuters in Europe! Wow.

more on the new Star Trek movie

Looks like they have found someone to play Captain Kirk in the Star Trek movie. The actor is Chris Pine. He looks vaguely familiar to me, but I do not think I have really seen him in anything. Hrm. Wonder why they didn't go with someone a bit more well known?

Simon Pegg in Star Trek movie?!

I loved Shaun of the Dead and I loved Hot Fuzz. So I guess you could say that I love Simon Pegg. He was just cast in the new Star Trek movie as 'Scotty.' I will not be seing Simon Pegg as Scotty because I do not like Star Trek.

I hope this doesn't mean that there will be a delay in another funny film like Hot Fuzz from him. Dude is funny!

Madonna fires her record label

Looks like Madonna got a sweet new offer and is leaving Warner Bros. She is going with Live Nation now, as in the concert promoter. They paid her some major cash and in return they get her for 10 yrs. She will release 3 studio albums with them.
Madonna may sign a 10-year agreement with Beverly Hills, California-based Live Nation worth about $120 million in cash and stock, the Wall Street Journal said yesterday on its Web site.

a boy-boy kiss on daytime tv!

Wow, I can't believe a soap opera here in the US went for it. They had two men kiss! That's right, two men kissed on As The World Turns!

And it looked pretty hot too.

Awesomeness.

an open letter to Associated Content

Dear Associated Content,

I love that you pay for articles with a quickness.

That is all that I love about you.

You have no standards. You don't even have a spell checker or a fact checker on staff. You lowball the desperate writers that send you their articles. You should be ashamed of yourself.

You content reviewers are rude. They are also rather dumb. And probably overpaid considering how stupid they appear to be.

You are cheating writers everywhere. You are clogging up Google with articles that have inaccurate facts and loads of spelling problems.

Why don't you try to be a major player? Pay your writers more and be more selective in what you publish.

In closing, Associated Content sucks!

London police don't like spicy chili

If you want to make spicy chili in London, the police might knock down your door.

This is really funny:
London Fire Brigade's chemical response team was called after reports that a strong smell was wafting from the restaurant in the heart of London's Soho district Monday afternoon, a Metropolitan police spokesman said, speaking anonymously in line with force policy.

Authorities sealed off several premises and closed roads. The Times of London described shoppers coughing and spluttering as firefighters wearing special breathing masks sought the source of the smell.

Ah, you just can't make spicy chili in London any more.

Hillary Clinton is leading the pack!

Score one on the side of gay rights. Looks like Hillary Clinton is leading the pack of the presidential nominees. I would love to get a Clinton back in office. Then the economy would be better. And maybe we'd take some positive steps in the arena of gay rights. Go Hillary, go!

Wallace & Gromit back on tv!

According to BBC News Wallace & Gromit are coming back to TV. Unfortunately it is in the UK. And I am not in the UK. But I do loves me some Wallace & Gromit . Maybe it will show up on BBC America. Hooray! More Wallace & Gromit !

Britney gets new custody hearing

Well, I spoke too soon. Looks like Britney is getting a new custody hearing. But c'mon! She lost the kids cause of her hit and run. So, why would they give them back to her? Maybe they shouldn't! So much for her comeback.

Britney lost her kids

Well, it was bound to happen. K-Fed is looking like the sane one. Wonder if Brit will go to jail like Paris? Maybe they will give her the same cell that Paris had. Or the same one Nicole had. heh

Ah, Santorini

I've been watching the sunset cam over Santorini online. It looks so nice there. I wish I could take a trip there. Like now. The flight is pretty expensive though. I need to start saving up so that I will be able to take me a fun little trip. Until then I will have to just watch it on the sunset cam. sigh.

school again

It's that time again kiddies. Time for school to start. Sometimes I think I would like to keep taking classes and learning stuff forever. Then reality sinks in. Reality in the form of homework. Then I do not want to take any classes. At all. I wish I could just read the stuff and not have to do the tests and the home works.

ick, summer

Sometimes I really hate summer. It's hot. Too hot. and icky and sticky out. And why are there so many more bugs in the summer? And sweating. I really hate sweating. It makes me feel so freaking gross. How about no more summer? Let's just extend spring and fall to fill in the gap?

Apparently there are no Indian lesbians, otherwise this would not be newsworthy, right?

Oh wait, they must not know about my friend Kamini, who is indeed both Indian and lesbian. Maybe I should alert the authorities.

Story at ShowbizData :

INDIAN ACTRESS PORTRAYS LESBIAN
Monday, March 19 2007
A top Bollywood actress has touched off controversy in
India following word that she will play a lesbian in her forthcoming movie, I
Can't Think Straight, which was recently filmed in England. Indian-Canadian Lisa
Ray, who starred in Deepa Mehta's Oscar-nominated Water, declined to discuss the
film when contacted by IANS, the Indian wire service. But Aseem Bajaj, director
of photography on the film, remarked that he does not see the subject matter as
controversial -- "not in this day and age." Ray herself is not unfamiliar with
controversy generated by her films. Water sparked violent protests by Hindu
fundamentalists when it began shooting in Varanasi in 2000, forcing the Uttar
Pradesh government to halt additional filming there.

Only 219 gay couples in NJ want "marriage" benefits?

It seems that it has been one month since civil unions have been legal in New Jersery, and a whopping 219 couples have had them. 219. wtf? I know there have to be more than 219 gay couples in New Jersey!

If no one cares enough to take advantage when a law like this goes into effect, the it will probably keep similar laws from going into effect elsewhere. So get off your asses people!

The US govt - always trying to kill someone

An article I found yesterday at The Independent online points to an FBI file that says that Marilyn Monroe was duped into killing herself. I'm not sure if this was reported in any of the US media or not, but geesh! And then the Kennedys are behind it!

let your child perfect their pole dancing technique

File this under wtf?

Apparently a toy store chain was selling an item for children called the Peekaboo pole. Wow. The advertisment read:
"Unleash the sex kitten inside...simply extend the Peekaboo pole inside the
tube, slip on the sexy tunes and away you go! Soon you'll be flaunting it
to the world and earning a fortune in Peekaboo Dance Dollars."

Wow.

Saturday, March 03, 2007

Ah, dammit man

I've been watching what has been going on over in Italy with much interest as Prodi planned on trying to legalize same-sex unions. Thankfully, Berlusconi did not return to power as Prodi got the support needed to stay. I was all cartwheels until I read this...
A Cabinet plan to legalize unmarried couples, including same-sex ones, appears to have been sacrificed to safeguard government stability. The government-proposed legislation has irked the Vatican and angered Catholic politicians in the bloc.

Argh! Dammit man.

awesomeness

One of the cuties from RBD came out today after some pics surfaced of him marrying his boyfriend. Link here. Now, I wonder if any of the other RBD members will follow suit as he doesn't seem to be the only one... Anywho, hooray for Christian Chavez!

Celebaholics

I was reading how Britney checked out of rehab again, but this time it was only temporary as she was going to an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting. Which had me thinking...it wasn't so anonymous for her, now was it? Maybe there should be special meetings for celebs, I mean, god knows there are enough of them for it to be a good sized group. Maybe Mel Gibson could be the leader?

I've been cursed since Dan Brown...

Knowing that the IQ of the general population is not too high, I usually try to steer clear of anything that's trendy. Why? Because chances are if the masses like it, it's probably pretty lame.

But I'm weak.

Sometimes, when something has staying power I break down and check it out. More times than not I realize I should have left well enough alone. (Blair Witch Project, I'm talking to you. And you too Dan Brown.) However, there have been times that I was like 'whoa, people actually have pretty decent taste for a change." For instance, I fought off Harry Potter until it was assigned to me in a college literature class. Glad that happened. I initially thought that the Dixie Chicks were talentless hacks and succumbed to temptation by the 3rd album. Not only are they uber talented but have proven to be so right on target politically.

Well, after repeatedly being told how David Sedaris is all the rage and how is writing is so wonderful I picked up one of his books off a sale table. "Dress Your Family in Corduroy and Denim" is what I ended up with. I've read about half of it so far and my only thought is - THIS is what people consider wonderful writing? Oy vey. Maybe, just maybe this is one of his lesser works. I hopped over to Amazon to see the reviews and find out...282 reviews and it 4/5 stars. Dammit, this is supposed to be a good one.

The new AT&T - still sucking

It seems you can't go anywhere without seeing/hearing an advertisement for "The new AT&T" since their recent take-over of Bellsouth and Cingular. Unfortunately for me, I am about to move and had to deal with the "new AT&T" to setup new phone service. On Jan 29th I filled out the online order form for new service, which was set to begin today. At 10am today I get an email telling me that they cannot complete my request and to call 1-800-244-4444 to resolve the problem. I promptly get on the phone...a phone call that results in me getting transferred 5 times for a total call lenght of just over an hour, with half the CSRs being able to see my account but having no clue why there is a problem and the other half telling me that the account does not exist. Ah, incompetence at it's finest. The call ended with the Midwest web order department telling me that there was no record of my account or order (even though previous people had been able to pull it up with my confirmation number), then the lovely (insert sarcasm here) lady told me that she could walk me through the web order form step-by-step. Apparently their incomptence was a direct result of me being internet illiterate...who knew?!? I asked her what good that would do if the order did not show up in their system the first time even though I was issued a confirmation number. Oy.

So, for anyone else having this problem with 'the new AT&T', here's some other phone numbers I have accumlated from my session today.
Midwest web order department 1-800-869-1598
Texas web order department 1-866-602-4412
Installation department 1-800-341-9311
Business office 1-800-288-2020
Order department 1-800-299-3810

Luckily I can get phone service through the cable provider or through a third-party like Vonage. Unfortunately, I have dealt with Vonage in the past and they are just as incompetent (if not more so). Damn the phone company monopolies.

Love has no leaders, and our leaders have no love.

The thought process of some people consistently perplexes and astounds me. Yesterday I read the following message in an online group that I subscribe to for foreign language exchange:
"To start with, I'm against homosexuality. You can guess then that I'm against homosexual marriages and -of course- I'm against any law that aproves children adoptions by these couples. Poor children... they would grow with a twisted idea of what a family should be."
The above message was in response to someone's suggestion that the group discuss off-topic items to make the group less boring. In response to the above message, s omeone mentioned that choice was up to the individual. As a result the same person as above replied:
"...I agree with you that everybody is free to decide what to do with their life. I respect people's choice, but that doesn't mean I aprove it. That's what I call tolerance. However, when it comes to adoption, a third person is involved: a child. This child cannot decide if he wants to be raised by an homosexual couple. He's not able to decide anything at all. So, the goverment must choose what it's best for him. I think homosexuality goes against nature... a child is bring to this world only through the union of an egg (women) and a sperm (men). Even in labs, they need these two components. What does this tell you? A family should be formed by a dad, a mum, and their kids. That's what God established."
Of course, what this person is ignorant of is parthenogenesis, which of course is the scientific terminology for the occurrence of two females producing offspring without the assistance of any males (and it should be noted that this DOES occur naturally in some species). A recent news article from December 2006 even points to a pair of female Komodo dragons that have produced offspring without sperm. Astonishingly, parthenogeneis is not a new thing. A July 2001 article shows that Australian scientists found a way to fertilize an egg without the need for sperm. However, due to women clearly lacking the genetic makeup of males, only girls can be born. And in a 2004 article, Japanese scientists were reported to have been successful at creating baby mice without any sperm. Granted, it took them over 400 times to get it right, but clearly it can be done.

All scientific facts aside, I have to wonder what people, such as the person whose comments I have posted above, have against love. The person stated that they were against children being adopted by homosexual couples because "they would grow with a twisted idea of what a family should be." To which my first thought is, 'yes, because possibly living to adulthood in an orphanage is much better than having two loving dads/moms.' People that bring God into the argument are always of the position that love/family and homosexual relationships are mutually exclusive. In reality they are no more mutually exclusive than heterosexual relationships. I often wonder with people of this thought persuasion what exactly their obsession is with homosexuality. These people expend so much energy spouting off about how <<insert choice inflammatory language here>> homosexuality is that I suspect they spend more time thinking on all things gay than gay people themselves do! Yet, because they think that love/family and homosexual relationships are mutually exclusive they would rather leave children with no family than have them in what they fail to see as a family in 2 men or 2 women. I challenge them to walk into any orphange and ask any child there if they would rather remain at the orphange (possibily through adulthood) or leave with a homosexual couple that wanted to adopt them. I suspect they would not like the answer they would receive.

I just don't understand women like this

Overheard from another cubicle at work:

Woman #1: I can't believe she's running for President.

Woman #2: I know, I don't get it.

Woman #1: Yeh, I mean, I like her, but...

Woman #2: We should talk to David, he'll understand.

Woman #1: I just don't want a woman for President.

Say what? How can a woman basically say that a woman is not worthy of being in power?

Finally...a trailer for the movie

real-life Tarzan

I happened upon the most interesting story in The Guardian here.

Apparently a 27 y.o. woman was found in the jungle and people think she is a girl that disappeared when she was 8 years old. Seems she was walking around like an ape and refuses to wear clothes now, craziness.

NYC - Bohemia no more

A few years ago I lived in a dumpy little studio on 27th & 6th in NYC for the low-low price of $1350 a month. Now the average rent in that area is well over $2000 and the corners are littered with luxury highrises. How un-New York! My corner used to be filled with trannies! Nothing is as depressing as strolling through Chelsea and seeing one highrise condo building after another. A parking lot that doubled as a junk fair location on weekends is now being primed for yet another beacon of the decline of New York.

I used to walk by Avalon each day on my way to work. According to an article in the Guardian, Avalon is set to be turned into a mini-mall. New York - is nothing sacred anymore? you're losing your charm, love.

Massachusetts to gay couples: "Just kidding"

Apparently some Massachusetts lawmakers have decided that it's okay to take back civil rights, specifically the right for gay couples to marry in Massachusetts. An appalling 62 state legislators voted to advance a constitutional amendment banning gay marriage in Massachusetts. Where's the outrage? Where's the brave wannabe presidential candidate denouncing this atrocity? Anyone? Someone please, ferchrissakes. Where is Al Sharpton and his eager-to-march-for-justice legs? Where are the couples of the approximate 8,500 gay marriages that were performed in Massachusetts? That little certificate doesn't symbolize a thing if they're not willing to stand up for it!

Frankly, I don't understand this anti-gay obsession. And I'm surprised that the almighty dollar hasn't knocked these Republicans off of their moral high-horse. I don't know the cost of a marriage license, but for arguments sake let's put a price of $100 on it. That's $850,000 that Massachusetts made. This doesn't take into account the money made by florists, caterers, reception halls, etc. And of course the state and the government taxes all of these business on the money they made from gay marriages. That's not pocket change. And here I thought Republicans liked money more than Jesus.

So, what's next? Taking away the right of women to vote?

Toyota knows if you've been drinking

Toyota seems to think it's a good idea to make car that can detect a high blood alcohol level in the driver. According to the article, this is how it will work:

**if sweat sensors in the driving wheel detect high levels of alcohol in the driver's bloodstream, the car won't start

**if the sensors detect abnormal steering, the car is slowed to a halt

**if a special camera shows that the driver's pupils are not in focus, the car will come to a halt

This is a bit worrisome because the next thing you know, Toyota will send info to the police that you are driving drunk. I'm also concerned about the whole 'car slowed to a halt' thing. What if you're on a busy freeway? Do the hazard lights come on to alert other drivers? Or are you on your own and have to hope that no one crashes into your halted car? And what about the 'special camera' that studies the drivers pupils....when I go to the eye doctor they dilate my eyes, does that mean my car would slow to a halt because of this? And is the feed from this 'special camera' stored anywhere?
